I found myself in a coffee shop today working next to a group of entrepreneurs having a meeting about their start-up sock company. If that doesn’t sound interesting to you, then you don’t know socks! I ran into a girl at a bar on trivia night whose boyfriend had just broken up with her via text message. She was set to move to California to live with him in a few weeks. So I drew her this, which was my only contribution to our trivia team other than being the only person in the bar who could name the daily newspaper in Indianapolis.

Danish cartoon anniversary

Last week was the fifth anniversary of the publication on the Danish Muhammad cartoons. Tom Spurgeon posted some good thoughts over at Comics Reporter. I don’t have much to add other than emphasizing the fact that 139 people died in the ensuing riots. Whether it’s these cartoons or the recent Koran burning stunt, these controversies usually are abstract debates between free speech purists (a group I consider myself to be a part of), anti-Islamic conservatives and their political rivals. In other parts of the world–brown parts–people die.
