Obama’s press conference on the NSA contained a number of distortions, including the somewhat unlikely claim that he was reviewing all these programs before Ed Snowden leaked the details to the public in preparation to issue reforms no one was demanding on the programs no one knew about. It’s all legal, he said, but we’re going to introduce reforms and oversights, you know, just in case the government could potentially abuse these powers. Not that they have or anything.
He used an example of showing Michelle he did the dishes instead of her taking his word. Trust but verify. That story only works though if washing dishes was thought to be illegal and dangerous by half of America and dishes not existing when the founding fathers wrote the Constitution.
